#3 – BURIED ALIVE
In order to promote Magic Week, Tim came up with a lot of crazy publicity stunts. One of these was to be buried alive on national TV. In 1988 ‘The Today Show’ came to the party and filmed a pre-recorded interview with Tim then turned up to the Caulfield Town Hall to let the entire country see Tim being nailed into a wooden crate and covered in a ton of earth…
Unfortunately, the studio gave the signal that we were going live so they started nailing the lid shut, but the producers first played the pre-recorded interview. When they came live to the box it was already in the hole and being covered up. Who knows if Tim was even in it?
But to the viewers at home, and to host George Negus in the studio, they weren’t convinced it was legit – thus George Negus’ comment “Are we being Carlosed?”
Nevertheless, with a cross during the midday news and live coverage of Tim’s “escape” on the show ‘Live at Five’, Magic Week again got some more great PR.
